Information for Gemini Fixed Frequency Graphics Cards

XFree86/Linux/FreeBSD can be some what frustrating to get working with a Fixed Frequency monitor.

Software Integrators has assisted many people in the configuration of Xwindows.

What you need:

Linux/FreeBSD
XFree86 3.3.2 or later. Get it from http://www.xfree86.org or RedHat 5.0 RPM files
The SVGA XFree86 Display Server (included with XFree86)
This Software Integrators Utility
Patience & Perseverance (needed for any Linux/FreeBSD configuration task)
Xvidtune, included with XFree86, is usefull as well.

Steps:

Install the OS & XFree86
Select either the SVGA server during Xwindows configuration
Select 'Custom Monitor' & select the maximum horizontal & vertical parameters for it.
DO NOT probe for clocks during the installation. This will cause a default XF86Config file to be generated. This file will not work without modifications!!!
Use the MODELINE utility to generate the correct config information (FROM A DOS BOOTED FLOPPY).
Cut and Paste the new data into the appropriate sections of the XF86Config file & remove the old data.
Execute 'startx' from the command line.
Use Xvidtune or manually adjust parameters IF NECESSARY to adjust centering.

Notes:

Using the SVGA server will enable the use of high color modes.
The W32 server does not support color depths greater the 256 and has many bugs. We do not recommend using it.
Please read the information available at the links below about specific info on each program/utility (NOT including MODELINE).
Tech support personnel are available to assist you.
